The death comes as Norfolk Southern deals with scrutiny over its operations following two recent derailments in Ohio, including one that resulted in the release of hazardous chemicals in East Palestine.
Norfolk Southern said it is working with Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland-Cliffs representatives to confirm the details of the incident.
The crash comes a day after Norfolk Southern said it would add 200 temperature detectors along its tracks as part of a wider push to enhance safety.
